RESOLUTION NO. 2009-5
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF DAILY PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE BY AMTRAK OF THE PIONEER ROUTE.
WHEREAS, there is a growing need for diversity of transportation due to the rapid growth within the State of Idaho, the Magic Valley, and the Wood River Valley; and
WHEREAS, Shoshone is on the mainline of the Union Pacific Railroad and is the gateway for rail service to the Magic Valley and the Wood River Valley;
WHEREAS the use of public transportation is increasing rapidly across the country, but such provisions are lacking within the immediate area; and
NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Shoshone, Idaho, strongly urge Amtrak to restore as soon as possible passenger rail service between Chicago and Portland on the Pioneer routes.
