Dear Mr. Hutchinson:

The City of Laramie has been made aware of the possibility that Amtrak may consider reinstituting the Pioneer train route.   This route that once traveled through Laramie provided a vital link to a number of towns along the way.  As a town founded by the railway expansion into the Western United States, we find this possibility enormously exciting.

While we know that time marches forward, changing circumstances for individuals and communities alike, we believe this is a great moment in history for the rail travel.  With energy, road and vehicle costs climbing, more of us are looking for more efficient and economical travel methods.  Additionally, those of us who travel frequently by car are more and more aware of the amount of time we spend just driving from place to place.  Rail travel could offer those of us in the West a new opportunity to still travel, but spend that travel time in more productive pursuits.  Many a time I’ve sat behind the wheel of my car thinking about all the work I could accomplish if only I didn’t have to drive myself.

With Laramie’s large student population and long winters, we believe rail travel would offer an exciting opportunity for our citizens to safely and efficiently continue to move around the state.  We sincerely hope that this effort will be given every serious consideration and we look forward to the possibility of rail travel again in our future.

             Thank you for your consideration.

 Sincerely,
