Amanda Remington,  Executive Director

Mid-Columbia Economic Development District

September 24, 2009

Mid-Columbia Economic Development District recognizes that investments in rural transportation options are a crucial element to generating economic prosperity in the Mid-Columbia region, as outlined in our Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.  Intercity and regional rail service is an important source of mobility and the benefits of rail service are clear and distinctive; convenient, safe, reliable and affordable transportation to a job, health care, shopping, or education.  In relation to the Amtrak feasibility study on the Pioneer line restoration, I would like to underscore the need to allow for continued freight capacity combined with increased mobility options through the employment of new technologies for tracks and signals.  I am expressing support for additional transportation options that would allow for growth of our regional economy.
